Introduction

National Taitung University (NTTU) was transformed from a normal college to a comprehensive university comprising three colleges, namely the College of Humanities, the College of Science and Engineering, and the Teachers College. Since the 2010 academic year, the institution has positioned itself as a distinctive high-quality teaching university aiming to extend the educational heritage of the normal college regarding high-quality teaching and talent cultivation.
Subject to the increasing impact of global climate change on the ecosystem and human society, higher education possesses forward-looking leadership in relation to social transformation and sustainable development. Domestic and foreign universities endeavor to pursue carbon neutrality in campus operations, thus embodying educational functions and social responsibility.
In the first semester of the 2016 academic year, the school positioned itself as a high-quality teaching university that adapts to local needs and resources. The school seeks to develop specialized teaching and research, advance progress towards a green university, and eventually transition to a high-quality outstanding international green university. A holistic education blueprint was drawn in connection with the motto, vision, mission, and self-positioning of the school. In addition, the school formulated a white paper for its international green university initiatives to guide the development of school affairs and for all the divisions of the school to follow in implementation, rendering the school an international green university embodying wisdom, health, sustainability, and aesthetic values.
The school focuses on the management and improvement of digital energy management, waste reduction, and water resource utilization to establish a virtuous cycle for the campus. Its devotion to ecology-related courses, research, and participation and to developing industries in the knowledge economy has yielded unique outcomes. The school actively participates in organizations, rankings, exchanges and collaborations with domestic and foreign green universities. The campus culture of an international green university is shaped in expectation of actual implementation and lifestyle changes by all faculty members and students.
