University sites in and around Zhiben and Taitung City University sites are served by local buses No. 8129 run by Ding-Dong Travel Network of Taiwan's east coast, as Taitung University’s Library & Information Center is a well-known site favored by tourists and locals alike.

No.8129 shuttle bus run by the Ding-Dong Travel Network Travels transport between Taitung City and Zhiben campus with a distance of 14 Km. There are 15 round trips between Zhiben campus and Taitung City. No. 8129 bus also travels between Zhiben downtown to Zhiben campus with a distance of 10.5 Km. There are 15 round trips between Zhiben campus and Zhiben downtown. The buses provide transportation for staff, students and visitors to Zhiben campus.

NTTU invested finance to construct a waiting building for No. 8129 metro bus stop at the Main Entrance Gate in 2019. It provides a comfortable and friendly waiting for bus environment.

The distance between each building including academic building, Sports Center, dormitory, and dining hall are all within 5 minutes walk. Pedestrian pathe are very popular and some bikes are also available on campus. Therefore, NTTU didn’t not provide public transportation like shuttle buses on campus. Furthermore, the bus stop for the Ding-Dong bus is at the Main gate. Passengers can go to each building within a 5 minutes walk.

Every year, NTTU helps reimburse operation costs of the No. 8129 bus services that travel between the university and downtown Taitung City and Zhiben and run along rural areas of southern Taitung County. For 2018, NTTU has reimbursed Ding-Dong Travel Network 12,501 USD in operation costs.

There are 169 zero emission vehicles including 10 electric bikes and 159 bikes on campus. Seven electric bikes are provided by the university for office use only. Seven electric bikes and 121 bicycles are provided by NTTU free. The other 3 electric bikes and 38 bicycles are owned by students themselves.

NTTU campus’ design are cyclist and pedestrian friendly. Many have vehicle-free paths for such users. There is a 20 Km/h speed limit for bicycles on bicycle paths or vehicle roads. All sites have cycle racks in a variety of designs. Many of them are under trees with sufficient coverage to avoid exposure to the sun.

We have planted many native species of trees on our campuses. These trees provide shade for student activities in summer and car parking. Most of the car parking areas on campuses are shaded by tall trees in order to avoid vehicles to be exposed to the harsh sun. This protects the car and saves energy and costs.

We have invested finance in constructing motorcycle parking spaces to avoid motorcycles being exposed to the sun and rain. All motorcycles can park at the motorcycle shelves.

Abundant and well-designed pedestrian trails constructed between buildings at campus make it convenient to reach every building by foot. Pedestrian paths also connect all buildings and areas including teaching areas, sport and recreational areas, and living and dormitories areas.

Most of the pedestrian paths provide shading to prevent direct exposure to the sun.
