Since 2020, NTTU Teachers College has offered an interdisciplinary course module on Mountain & Sea Recreation. The course objective is to consolidate NTTU’s USR project: Taitung Project Y on Joint-Innovation of Good Tribal Travel. The project aims to integrate students from related departments to visit Fushan Fishery Conservation Area in Beinan, Jialan Tribe in Jinfeng, and Wuling Tribe in Yanping. Students are encouraged to help the development of local industry and jointly conserve local culture.
Teachers and students make use of this course to conduct on-site interviews and visit the water recreation industry. They work with local associations to explore business models for water and land activities on Green Island, observe sustainable oceanic practices that combine ecological conservation and commercial activities, optimize tribal tourism itineraries, help tribal teams operate fan pages, produce tribal image videos, develop tribal-specific products, and participate in market stalls and other activities. This course aims to promote Project Y together with local features of the activity field.
Participants of “Marine Culture & Recreational Exploration” consist of 3 cross-university elective students, 12 cross-college NTTU students, 3 interns, 11 NTTU outdoor team members, and scuba-diving learners, for a total of 30 teachers and students, including one local youth from Tsitong Tribe with diving expertise.
