Marine Conservation Volunteer Team - Underwater Clean-up in Fushan Fish Recovery Area
The Marine Conservation Volunteer Team was founded in 2020 by the Department of Somatics and Sport Leisure Industry of NTTU. Instructor Wen, Tan-Chuo led the students specializing in diving to the FUDAFUDAK for environment maintenance. In 2021, the volunteer team completed several academic and technical operation teaching videos of mountain and marine activities, actively cultivating talents and also hoping to promote local talent training ability. There were diverse marine ecology systems in FUDAFUDAK waters. But when diving into the water, the discarding fishing nets entwining corals often came into our sight, seriously damaging the ecology. About 20 divers were trained every year in the Department of Somatics and Sport Leisure Industry of NTTU. Many students volunteered to join the Marine Conservation Volunteer Team, regularly headed for FUDAFUDAK and dived into the water to remove the fishing nets and marine debris to protect the marine environment.
Given the foregoing situation found by the teachers and students in the process of diving courses conducted by the Mountain-Ocean Tribe Recreation Education Center of our school, we decided that 2 to 4 dives per month from April to September would be arranged to carry out environmental maintenance operations to remove fishing nets and fulfill the social responsibilities of the University by combining the mountain and marine resources with the outdoor skills.
Our student team led our affiliated primary school students to Fushan to experience diving. Our student team even guided the teachers of Fushan Elementary School in the local community for diving license study.
As they attended classes in the local community, students also designed tourism itinerary for the local community through the courses of Mountain-Ocean Tribe Recreation Education Center.
